Developments:
I gave a talk in London yesterday on my report on UK vaccination policy, 'Not Immune,' which was released by the think tank 2020health earlier this year. Andrew Lansley (the Shadow Health Secretary), Sir Michael Rawlins (Chairman of NICE) and Andrew Hall (Chairman of the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation) responded to the talk, and the debate focused on whether the JCVI should be merged with NICE, as the Conservatives have proposed. In my report I argue that a merger is unlikely to benefit the nation's health and more likely to imperil it, but it seems likely that if the tories win the next election a merger will go ahead. A full version of the report (including an executive summary) is here.
