Developments:
The British Council report, Pakistan: The Next Generation, to which I was one of several contributing authors, has been making something of a splash (there are articles on it here, here, here and here already, though the report itself isn't yet available online). The piece argues that Pakistan's burgeoning youth generation could further destabilise the country if it continues to be ignored by policy-makers and excluded from jobs and political life. On the other hand, if Pakistan's leaders invest in education, making the labour market fairer, and giving young people a voice, they could prove to be an asset. The window of opportunity, however, is closing. For a similar prognosis, see the Nigeria project we're working on next.
